Half umbrella
The half umbrella, Meissl’s exclusive new development, offers a very attractive solution for small patios and balconies, but also works well for a solid connection to the building if there are no other mounting options on the façade. The usual stability and security for tough demands and extreme weather conditions are just as important as the numerous sizes and design versions. An ideal example of use is presented with the roof patio of the splendid Crowne Plaza in Salzburg: on the 6th floor of the fully renovated magnificent building are 17 umbrellas, with 15 of these elegant half umbrellas.

Ground mounting by means of a flat roof flange, screwed into the supporting structure in cooperation with local builders.
Umbrella combination with recessed circle segment
Two round large umbrellas that directly connect to each other always make for an unusual engineering challenge because problem-free function of opening and closing naturally has to be ensured for both umbrellas, as does a flush-mounted, rainproof connection. A particularly charming version was created for an exclusive winery in sunny California. For this, a large umbrella and a smaller model were combined – solution that gives an impressive overall appearance, not only from the air.

Umbrella with polygon layout
Sometimes things are a bit more complicated. For optimum use in certain locations and sites and to also clearly stand out from the competition, large umbrellas are necessary that have a polygonal, asymmetrical shape. This is no problem for Meissl because even when it comes to complex tasks we have the experience and the technology for the related implementation. Stability and reliable function are naturally part of such constructions. You can find evidence of this “live” at various locations.

Ground mounting by means of a base frame, which also accommodates the wall elements
Umbrella with open layout
Large umbrellas with covers that do not match the usual round, square or rectangular shapes, are captivating in their appearance and often form the best option for certain structural requirements. Of course, the amorphous umbrella design requires special structural solutions and more complex technology, since in these cases tensile forces and stress are acting in an extraordinary way. Meissl specialists meet the challenges, as evidenced by umbrella setups from Portugal to Turkey!!

Umbrella size for precise structural fit
Umbrellas with direct connections to existing buildings or specific layouts usually require unusual sizes. Not infrequently, necessary deviations from normal dimensions are hardly noticeable and often it comes down to only a few degrees from a right angle. The already provided special dimensions provide reliable function and, ultimately, the custom-fit connections prevent moisture or air draughts from entering. Thus, it is still a matter of all-round protection in any weather. And so, Meissl developed polygonal large umbrellas that when open fit exactly into the given space situation – with continuous operation, at any location and in any weather!!

Nothing is impossible! Meissl professionals love to be challenged by seemingly impossible tasks. And they also convincingly achieve such tasks. When powerful forces that impact the frame structure and the fabric are taken into account for a specific size, then this interaction naturally increases, depending on how complex the design task is. After all, problem-free continuous operation must be ensured in every weather condition. The fact that the fully functional polygonal large umbrella can be easily operated and also looks quite “normal” is part of our skill and ambition.

Technical information
Meissl umbrellas are built for particularly tough operating conditions. All construction metals are protected against corrosion, partly by multiple layers. The basic acrylic fabric is manufactured according to the Oeko-Tex standard, and all chemicals used are subject to the REACH regulation. The fabrics are easy-care, dirt-repellent and treated against rotting. In order to avoid flutter damage, wind damage and excessive soiling, we strongly recommend that you use the guy strap and day cover every day after closing the umbrella.
Product safety and certificates
As a manufacturer of load-bearing structures made of steel and aluminum, we are subject to EN 1090, for which we are also certified up to EXC 2. Even if not all of our components fall within the scope of EN 1090, we have subjected our entire production chain to the quality criteria of this standard and attach importance to consistent factory production and quality control.
The shielding constructions are designed and built according to the Machinery Directive MRL 2006/42/EC and are CE marked. The declaration of conformity also covers the areas of the EMC Directive 2004/108/EC and other harmonized standards applied.
As the manufacturer and installer of the equipment, we also undertake the necessary maintenance and testing work in order to maintain the longevity, function and safety of the equipment.
